Stainless Steel Inventories in Wuxi (Updated: July 15, 2011)
UMETAL-CHINA, Up to July 15, 2011, stainless steel inventories in Wuxi market totaled 211,800 tonnes, of which 122,300 tonnes are CR products and 89,500 tonnes HR products.
In specific, 300 series stainless products came to 168,700 tonnes, accounting for about 79.65% of all; 400 series stainless products reached 32,500 tonnes, accounting for around 15.35% and 200 series stainless products stayed at 10,600 tonnes, accounting for 5.0% or so. UMETAL-CHINA, Up to June 30, 2011, stainless steel inventories in Foshan market totaled 124,100 tonnes, of which 62,200 tonnes are CR products and 61,900 tonnes HR products.
In details, 300 series stainless products amounted to 79,500 tonnes, accounting for about 64.08% of all; 400 series stainless products came to 15,000 tonnes, accounting for around 12.09% and 200 series stainless products 29,600 tonnes, accounting for 23.83% or so. TISCO Sets Aug Purchase Price for Stainless Steel Scrap
UMETAL-CHINA, According to TISCO, its purchase price for type 304 stainless steel scrap is set at RMB17,800/tonne (tax included; delivered mills) in August, ascending by RMB700/tonne from July.
Umetal analyst thinks that, the price increase mainly results from the continuous uptrend of LME nickel price since July. Accordingly, stainless steel scrap procurement prices move up and it is harder to conclude transaction, because suppliers are unwilling to sell. Global Nickel Market Eyes 9,300 Tonnes Shortage in Jan-May
UMETAL-CHINA, The International Nickel Study Group (INSG) said on Tuesday that, worldwide nickel market saw a short supply of 9,300 tonnes during Jan-May of this year.
According to latest monthly report of INSG, global consumption volume of primary nickel amounted to 641,400 tonnes in the first five months, and its output totaled 632,100 tonnes. Meanwhile, production of nickel mines reached 732,300 tonnes.
The group predicted in April that, global nickel market would see 60,000 tonnes nickel surplus in the year of 2011, against 30,000 tonnes shortage in 2010. (US$ 1=RMB 6.4592; Reporting by Hu Chengcheng; Editing by Vicky Wei)
June HR Stainless Steel Exports Dip in S. Korea
Data from Korea Iron & Steel Association (KISA) showed that, S. Korean HR stainless steel exports totaled 44,645 tonnes in June, slipping by 3.6% from those in May. Specifically, 8,940 tonnes were shipped to Thailand, 8,663 tonnes to China Taiwan, 7,456 tonnes to Vietnam; export volume to Japan, China, Italy and Turkey were respectively 4,092 tonnes, 5,795 tonnes, 5,267 tonnes and 2,990 tonnes.
Additionally, average export price stood at US$2,331/tonne, along with a decline of 13.5% MoM. (US$ 1=RMB 6.4592; Editing by Vicky Wei)
Market Players More Active to Purchase in Foshan Market
UMETAL-CHINA, Electronic transaction of LME Ni opened at US$24,100/tonne this Monday and closed at US$23,770/tonne, falling by US$380/tonne from last trading day; LME nickel price began with the opening price of US$23,850/tonne yesterday and kept stable in the morning; while in the afternoon, it trended up and reached the above of US$24,000/tonne under the stimulation of declining US dollar. LME nickel price still had no large breakthrough and the support level might still stay at US$24,000/tonne. Meantime, the inventory dropped by 768 tonnes to 101,586 tonnes.
Against such a backdrop, Foshan stainless steel spot prices remained basically steady yesterday, along with good shipments. Some traders expressed that, the continuous price increase of LME nickel had exerted positive impact on spot stainless steel market and downstream users and traders' procurement activity had gained to some degree.
